WHY I HATE CELL PHONES IN TV + FILM
"Are you and Kevin coming to Johnny's tonight?" "No... Kevin and I broke up last night. He said he doesn't want to do long distance when we go to college." *sigh* "What a prick. I knew there wasn't an ounce of loyalty in him." ----- This kind of dialogue - a perfectly reasonable "catching-up" between two friends - existed in TV and film for many years alongside the digital communication technologies that we use today such as text messaging, video calling, social media platforms, and many, many more, as time goes on. Cell phones were omitted from scripts in favour of in-person dialogue; as it was written, an audience was made to forget that such virtual forms of communication were viable methods for communicating when two characters were disjointed in different scenes and settings.
